Brayton Leads the Way in Teaching & Learning
dvd_1Brayton College has received Local Authority recognition for the quality of teaching and learning. For three days, students and teachers at Brayton College have been filmed by a professional film crew, recording the quality teaching and learning at the college. The recording will be used to create a DVD showing the strategies for learning used at the college. Deputy Head teacher, Mike Roper said "We are passionate about what we do here at Brayton and the DVD will allow us to show everyone the quality of learning that takes place here." The students involved were all very nervous at the thought of working with the film crew but it all went according to plan. Year 9 students, Mark Silverwood and Joe Clements who were involved with the filming, said, "I was nervous about the filming to begin with but once it started my confidence grew," and "The teaching at Brayton College is great; I really like the idea of being able to show other people how we learn."

dvd_2 In addition, Brayton College has been invited by the local authority to become a lead school in North Yorkshire for teaching and learning. Mike Roper added "We are delighted that the local authority has recognised the outstanding work that has been going on in the college around teaching and learning. We look forward to supporting other schools locally and beyond in improving their strategies."

German Exchange Trip 2009
germany_1We decided to sail rather than fly this year as it was a cheaper but equally exciting alternative. The crossing was perfect and we left from Hull in a heat wave and arrived in Rotterdam in thick fog! The journey down to the South of Germany was long but interesting as we drove over the huge Rhein and Mosel bridges and past the Hockenheim formula 1 racing track. The car theme continued with a trip to the brand new Porsche museum which was very impressive, followed by a trip into Stuttgart itself - the air conditioned shops proved to be a welcome break from the intense heat.

germany_2We started the exchange with the usual day in Europa Park and let ourselves be thrown upside down and inside out which is not bad after a 10 hour coach journey the day before - it was nice to get thoroughly soaked and be able to dry out before the next ride! On another day we climbed the highest cathedral tower in the world (really) in Ulm and were rewarded with an ice cream in an Italian ice parlour as long as we ordered in German! - this was followed by a quick look round the town and then a couple of hours of sliding and jumping in a nearby swimming complex.
