Abseiling for Charity

City Square, Leeds was the place to be on Saturday morning as five of our teachers abseiled down the Deloittes building to raise money for Candlelighters, a charity who support Yorkshire families of children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. Chris Sands, John McAulay, Michelle Cartwright, Juvina Lee and Ellie Richards, donned helmets and harnesses, provided by the Royal Marines as friends and family gathered in the square to watch. The wary band were whisked to the top in a glass lift and after a quick brief from the experts, they were attached to a rope to begin the long descent. All of them made it down safely and al the staff and students at the college are very proud of what they have achieved. English teacher, Ellie Richards said "that was so good, I've never done anything like that before but I would like to do it again!"

Mrs Corson said "we are hoping to raise over £1000 for Candlelighters but the main reason for this event is to support our student and leukaemia sufferer Ben Rushworth." Ben, who is being treated in the Teenage Cancer Unit at St James's hospital, Leeds is in the midst of his GCSEs but was able to come along to watch the teachers. To make a full recovery, Ben will need a Bone Marrow transplant and his family are hoping that the Anthony Nolan Trust can find a suitable donor.
