Brayton College has been identified by the national Specialist Schools and Academy Trust as one of the most improved Specialist Schools and Academies in the country. This national recognition required 3 continuous years' progress from 2006 to 2009 with a minimum 15% rise in performance. Brayton has surged forward from 48% to 72% 5A*-C - a rise by 24% - hitting the heights in 2009.
John Kesterton, Headteacher, will attend a celebratory dinner at national headquarters in London later in March. The secret to success at Brayton has been a relentless focus on good quality teaching and setting high expectations for students. As a Specialist Technology College, results in Science, Design & Technology and ICT have led the way above the 70%A*-C mark in 2009 with Maths closing in with 60%A*-C this is where the key progress is coming.
Strength in the Arts and Languages has been well established at Brayton for many years and the rise of the Specialism subjects has brought Brayton the highest results ever achieved in Selby and now national recognition by the ‘SSAT' which has responsibility for nearly 3000 secondary schools in the country.
Headteacher John Kesterton said: "I am delighted and proud to see Brayton recognized in this way because I know how hard staff and students have worked over the years and I truly believe there is more to come"
