Brayton College dance students were given the opportunity to participate in the North Yorkshire and York Schools Dance Competition. The event took place at Harrogate Grammar School, and Miss Cartwright selected the Booma dance students for the competition due to their hard work and commitment before and during the Christmas Dance Performance Evening.
Eight schools participated on the evening including; All Saints RC School, York High School, Selby High School, Joseph Rowntree School, Archbishop Holgate's School, Stokesley School and Barlby High School.
There were performances from the North Yorkshire County Youth Dance Company (NYCYDC) on the evening, and the judging panel consisted of Edward Lynch (dance consultant York), Donald Edwards (Artistic Director of NYCYDC) and Laura Murphy (a student currently training at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
This was an excellent opportunity for the students to perform at such an event and gain the experience of a dance competition. There were medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and Brayton College got 3rd place achieving bronze medals. Miss Cartwright was very proud of the dancers as they worked so hard, and the students who won 1st and 2nd place were GCSE Dance students, a competition of very high standard. We had dance students from the NYCYDC coming up to Miss Cartwright and Brayton College dancers saying they thought we should have won!!! |
